As a prominent Impressionist artwork seller, we hold one of the largest and most important collections of 19th and early 20th century impressionist and post-impressionist paintings in the world. At any one time we carry a wholly owned stock of around 400 paintings, watercolours and sculpture from a selected range of painters who we believe represent the best of their genre and period.
Our collection consists of works from across Western and Eastern Europe and the United States. These artworks are invariably from painters whose oeuvre can be found in museums and important collections in their homelands and abroad. Most importantly these are painters who transcend the general market having been consistently respected and collected not only in their lifetime but right through to the present day.
We always have certain criteria that we apply to each painter we represent before adding any of their work to our stock – that being condition and originality. We only offer works that are in fine condition without extensive restoration and as the artist originally intended.
The artists we have focused on in our collection are those that have pioneered a technique or genre and become one of the very best in their field. Every painter we represent will have been chosen after extensive research and understanding of their works and their life – allowing us to place each work we sell into context of not only the painter but their place in the history of art and in particular the movement or field that they were active in. This is the only way of establishing the long-term investment potential of art – by understanding its context and therefore being able to assess its rarity, uniqueness and ability to retain and increase its value.
The impressionist and post-impressionist market is increasingly becoming one of the preferred safe havens for investors who seek a compliment or alternative to traditional intangible assets. As museums and large collections gradually take works of art out of play the pool of available quality works continues to diminish, driving prices ever higher. It is important for a reputable Impressionist art seller to have a thorough understanding of the market. Our market analysis is second to one and is a critical part of our business which comes hand in hand with the skill of appreciating the aesthetic beauty of each work.
In addition to being an Impressionist artwork seller, we are also in the privileged position of loaning and selling objects from our collection to many museums and institutions around the world as well as helping our private collectors build their collections and their knowledge of the impressionist and post-impressionist market.
