Independent Art Advisory for Yacht Sales & Charter

A yacht interior has to be finished to a yard date that does not move, for an owner who wants real pictures rather than decoration, in an environment that is actively unkind to paintings. We have been placing original nineteenth and twentieth-century paintings with private clients since 2001, and we understand that on a vessel the picture is only half the job.

Working to your brief, not to our stock

Where the right picture is in our own inventory, we will say so. Where it is at auction, with a colleague in the trade, or not yet on the market, we will find it, inspect it in person and buy it on your behalf. Every work is researched and authenticated by our own team, and we will tell you plainly when something is not what it is said to be. We would rather lose a sale than put a problem aboard.

Pictures that suit a vessel

Scale and weight matter more at sea than ashore, and so does subject. Marine and coastal painting is a particular strength of ours — nineteenth-century harbour scenes, Impressionist and Post-Impressionist beach and estuary subjects, and the French and Dutch marine painters — but we are equally happy sourcing landscape, still life or figurative work to a designer’s scheme. An original painting reads differently from a print in a confined space, which is precisely why owners ask for them.

Prepared for the marine environment

We frame to suit the vessel as well as the room: sealed backs, glazing specified for safety and for light, and frames built and fixed to stay where they are put. We will advise on placement away from direct sun, heat sources and extremes of humidity, and on what to expect from a picture that will spend part of the year in the Caribbean and part in the Mediterranean. Seasonal condition checks can be arranged.

Documentation and delivery

Full condition reports and photography on handover, insurance valuations for agreed-value cover, museum-standard crating, and delivery to the yard, the berth or a shore store to suit the refit calendar. We will work alongside the owner’s own advisers on customs, VAT and temporary importation rather than second-guessing them.

Discretion is assumed. We do not discuss clients, prices, vessels or locations.

    Rue à Montmartre

    The Main Salon

Fine Art for the Main Salon

The most-seen room during any viewing or charter changeover, the main salon sets the tone for the whole vessel — a single considered piece does more to shape a buyer’s first impression than almost anywhere else on board.

    Bouquet d’été

    The Dining Salon

Fine Art for the Dining Salon

Whether laid for dinner or simply dressed for a viewing, the dining salon benefits from a piece with real presence — a natural complement to a room built around occasion.

Soleil levant dans la brume, Rotterdam

    The Owner's Suite

Fine Art for the Owner's Suite

The single strongest value lever on a yacht’s interior, and the space most likely to shape a buyer’s final impression or a charterer’s return booking — a considered piece here says as much about the vessel as any specification sheet.

    Working with You

We work with your team, not around them

Most of the collections we place involve more than one advisor — an interior designer, a project manager, or your own art consultant. We are accustomed to working alongside the professionals already involved, and see our role as adding specialist knowledge to that team, not replacing it.
