Roger Mühl Paintings
Born 1929, in Strasbourg.
Painter, watercolourist. Landscapes.
Roger Mühl studied with Lehmann at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Strasbourg from 1947 to 1950. He painted a fresco for the national Ministry for Education in Mulhouse in 1953, lacquerware in polyester in the archives of the town of Colmar in 1960, stained glass windows for the church of Illhaeusern and also for the school in Ittenheim, a school in Rennes, the Ostheim temple and the town hall in Mittelwihr. He was influenced by Nicolas de Stael and his early works reveal his origins in Alsace in his use of tints such as white and grey. After settling in Grasse in the South of France, his canvases, often thickly painted, became more colourful. He paints the lanscapes of Provence in twisted, distorted shapes dissected by valleys, in which light plays a very large part.
Mühl took part in group exhibitions in Paris, Mulhouse, Strasbourg, Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka. His one-man exhibitions include Paris, London, New York, Cologne, Stuttgart, Milan, Dallas and Stockholm, as well as the Musée de l’Athénée in Geneva, notably in 1998, and at the Galerie de la Bouquinerie de l’Institut, Paris, in 2003.
