1878 - 1964
Erne Hoppe was born one the 17th September 1878 in Hamburg where she grew up. From 1906 until 1914 she worked in Paris and exhibited at the Salons there. She met her Husband Charles Kinross in the city and they married, by this point she was an established painter with her own studio and a holiday home at Giverny.
Erna and Charles met and befriended Claude Monet in Giverny at this time – under his influence this was to become her most important period of painting.
She left Paris with her husband in 1915 and settled in England where Charles ran his business. She died in Sussex in 1964.
