Nu dans l’atelier
by Rene Xavier Prinet
Jean-Bertrand Pegot-Ogier was a pupil of Théophile Deyrolle and Alfred Guillou in Concarneau before he went to Paris in 1909, where he worked as a decorative artist and illustrator. During this period he was engaged in Breton regionalist activity and contributed to the journal Le Breton de Paris. His work is devoted entirely to Breton subjects - Pardon festivals, washerwomen and landscapes. He depicted Brittany and its traditions with a lively palette, using broad, flat colour and with a particular care for poetic lighting effects. He was killed in battle during World War I.
Pegot-Ogier exhibited in Paris at the Salon des Artistes Français, of which he was a member from 1902, and at the Salon des Indépendants. In 2001, some of his paintings were included in the exhibition The Golden Age of Painting in Brittany ( L'Âge d'Or de la Peinture en Bretagne), held at the Musée de Vannes, La Cohue.
