Binet studied under François Cormon (1865-1917) and Raphael Collin (1850-1916). From 1889 to 1939, he exhibited at the Salon of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts, and at the Exposition Coloniale in 1906. He received an honourable mention in 1899, a third-class medal in 1904, a second-class medal in 1912, and was classified hors concours (out of competition selections). In 1937, he was made a Chevalier of the Légion d'Honneur. He quickly freed himself from the constraints of his training and was heavily influenced by the Impressionists and their interest in the atmospheric conditions of the Seine and its estuary. Extremely susceptible to the charms and colours of a crowd scene, Binet painted beaches, vegetable and flower markets, which he observed in his native Normandy as well as in Paris, Bruges, the South of France and Italy.
