Painter, draughtsman. Figures, landscapes, seascapes, still-lifes, flowers.
Willem van Hasselt settled in France and exhibited regularly in Paris at the Salon of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts, of which he was a committee member. In 1933, he was made a Chevalier of the Légion d'Honneur, and was elected as a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 1945. His varied themes, which are traditional in nature, and his skilful drawing and use of colour make him typical of the artists in the Paris School between the two world wars.
