D.O. Widhopff started life as a draughtsman on the Courrier Français in 1908. A southern Russian by birth, be became a Parisian and a familiar figure in the Montmartre of the Belle Epoque. Widhopff the artist also designed cartoons for tapestries produced by Les Gobelins and Beauvais. He exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants, Salon d'Automne and Salon des Tuileries.
