Biography

Truphémus studied from 1942 to 1945 at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lyons, where he lives and works. He is particularly sensitive to muted lights and silvery greys. Rather than describing the landscape, he sets out to find its pictorial equivalence both in the material that is worked on for a long time and in the subtle progressions of colour.

Truphémus has taken part in a number of joint shows, particularly those devoted to Lyonnais painting, and has featured in the Salon du Sud-Est, the Salon des Terres Latines and the Biennale de Menton. He has also had solo shows: in 1951, 1954, 1955, 1962, 1964, 1967 and 1971 in Lyons; in 1959, 1962, 1964, 1967, 1974, 1990, 1992 and 2002 in Paris at the Galerie Claude Bernard and in Annecy, Grenoble, Nice, Basel, Lausanne and Nantes.
