Victor Lecomte trained with Achille Gilbert. His genre scenes, such as Reading in the Evening, show a strongly contrasted chiaroscuro. He exhibited at the Salon de Paris (1876 to 1914). He was awarded an honourable mention (1892), a third-class medal in (1897), a bronze medal at the Exposition Universelle (1900) and a second-class medal (1905).
