Dimanche
by Paul Elie Gernez
Otto Thiele was born in Rackitt in 1870. He studied in Berlin at the Academy and received his training from Lovis Corinth. He made the city of Berlin his home, choosing to paint the architecture and Berlins people as well as the surrounding countryside.
Thiele discovered the iron and glazed covered market halls of Berlin which were somewhat of a novelty to the city. They became a recurring theme in his work as he could capture the vibrant colour of the flowers and wares being sold as well as the hustle and bustle of daily life within the markets.
Much of his work was destroyed in World War Two and as such he has not achieved the acclaim he deserves.
