Nicolas Baudesson, who figures among the minor masters, enjoyed a considerable reputation during his lifetime. His paintings were much sought after, and there were a number in the Château de Versailles. In Paris and Rome, where he spent quite a long time, he was regarded as the best flower painter of his day. On 28 May 1671, he was admitted to the Académie de Paris. A painting by him is mentioned in the inventory of the painter P. Mignard.
