Biography

Hermann Corrodi’s first teachings were from his father, the Swiss painter Salomon Corrodi, then established in Rome and a professor at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma. He travelled a great deal in England, and lived in London. He also stayed in Baden-Baden in Germany and in Vienna and Paris, as well as Egypt, Syria, Palestine and Turkey. He maintained privileged relations with Kaiser William II. The English court appreciated his views of Venice and the Roman countryside, having acquired his Gethsemane, 1879.

His landscapes were executed in light tones, showing contrasts of light to beautiful effect. He also engraved several etchings.
