Biography

François Zier studied with his father, Victor Casimir Zier, and with Jean Léon Gérome.

He collaborated on the following publications: Le Courrier Français, L’Illustration, Le Monde Illustré. He illustrated numerous novels for young people, and Scarron’s The Comic Novel ( Le Roman Comique) in 1888. He lent an intimate character to his Medieval and Renaissance genre scenes, interpreted in the troubadour style. He made his début and then exhibited regularly at the Salon de Paris in 1874, which became the Salon des Artistes Français in 1881. He received honourable mention in 1884, became a member in 1894, received a 3rd class medal in 1900, and a 2nd class medal in 1904.
