An Introduction .......Our ethos is simple - sourcing fine pieces by noted artists that represent exceptional value for money, measured against today's market value and as a mid / long term investment. Many of our competitors operate pricing models that leave clients severely out of pocket if their investment has to be liquidated due to unforeseen circumstances - the global financial crisis of 2008/9 being a prime example. Our pricing typically allows clients to at least realize their money back in the short term and offers strong residual profits in the mid to long term. This is achieved by sharp buying and the removal of costly overheads such as London / New York premises, excessive gallery staffing and other associated costs. We are also very focused on meeting our customers needs - whether they be novice or experienced collectors, dealers, decorators or institutions. Buying art can be a dumbfounding experience and as such we treat all customer queries with the same level of respect - offering none of the pretence that is often associated with the purchase of expensive investment art. We recognise that paintings invariably need to be seen in detail and as such we offer the opportunity to view at our premises outside London, in the comfort of your own home or via extensive digital imagery. All paintings can be shipped on approval to clients anywhere in the world - subject to suitable collateral or deposits. How to View & BuyTo purchase a painting please click here and provide us with your contact information so we can arrange delivery and payment. We offer no-obligation viewings at your own home or at our premises located in Buckinghamshire - about 40 minutes by Car or 30 minutes by Train from Central London. Our "On Approval" service allows us to ship works of art anywhere in the world so you can familiarise yourself with them in the comfort of their intended surroundings (subject to suitable deposit / collateral and ID checks). If you would like multiple High Resolution Digitial Images of any item then please click here and they will be sent to your email address within 24 hours. Shipping your Purchases - UK & InternationalWe pride ourselves on the expert level of care undertaken in the packing and shipping of works of art. We use a network of specialist packers and carriers, who are selected depending on the size, value and shipping time frame for each piece. UK shipments are FREE OF CHARGE. International shipments are charged at COST - as an example, a large oil painting measuring 20 x 30 inches and housed in a period frame will cost around £130 to ship to North America - if this item were insured to £5,000 the cost would increase to around £230. Shipping would take around 2-5 business days and be fully tracked from end to end. Smaller less valuable works can be shipped for much less. Recently we sent an unframed watercolour to New Zealand, insured for £1,000 which cost £27.00 to ship and arrived within 3 days! For larger pieces over 50" inches in diameter we use the services of specialist firms who collect, crate and deliver end-to-end. Want to Sell?We are always looking to purchase fine paintings by artists from the 17th to 20th centuries. We buy over 20 paintings a week from across the world. Immediate payment will be made by bank transfer, cheque or cash (subject to suitable identification). Contact us before consigning to auction or selling to a third party as we are more than likely to offer a stronger price! In the unlikely event we do not wish to purchase we will offer an informal valuation and give advice on where best to sell your painting(s). Formal Insurance & Probate valuations are also undertaken for single items or whole collections. Restoration & Care of your PaintingsThe Gallery believes very strongly in responsible and sensitive restoration of Fine Art. Nearly all paintings over 100 years of age will have received some restoration in their lifetime - however not ALL restoration is GOOD restoration. Heavy in-painting, over-cleaning and use of incorrect chemicals all have an impact on a work of art - sadly meaning some great paintings are simply too far gone to be saved. We DO NOT offer any pieces that have had extensive restoration. If restoration is required we use a number of skilled and accredited craftsmen with decades of experience to sensitively put right the ravages of time or any mistreatment a painting may have endured. If you have Paintings or Works of Art that require restoration please contact us and we will happily advise you of the necessary work required and the likely costs and timescales involved. We also offer extensive advice on the handling, hanging and maintenance of your paintings. We have produced a care guide which is downloadable from the link below: |
Research and Valuation Tools
It may often seem difficult to ascertain whether a painting is good or bad value for money? You must first ask yourself how do you value the enjoyment you will receive from the painting - then align with this its cost and potential value as an investment - once you have done this the picture (excuse the pun) becomes somewhat clearer.
We believe in transparency when purchasing paintings and we actively encourage our customers to use reference tools such as ARTPRICE or ARTNET and other dealers sites to make sensible comparisons.
There are a number of key things to consider when attempting to value a work of art - some of these are listed below:
1. Size - Larger pieces will be more valuable than smaller - however there are notable exceptions.
2. Condition - This can have a major impact on a piece of art, literally making it worthless to priceless
3. Subject - Some subjects are much more desirable than others - i.e. children, noted historical figures, famous topography etc
4. Period - Artists had certain periods in their career, painting in different styles and different subjects - some being more collected than others
5. Provenance - Major gallery /collection provenance will add considerably to a paintings value
