SIR DAVID YOUNG CAMERON (1865-1945) Biography
Cameron was born in Glasgow. He studied at the Glasgow School of Art in the early 1880’s and the Royal Institution in 1885. Between 1887 and 1892 Cameron was a member of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers. It was during this time that he published a number of sets of etchings such as The Clyde Set, The North Holland Set and The North Italian Set.
Later he became known for his church interiors and barren landscapes of Scotland done in dry-point. The feathery lightness of these works was in visual contrast with the rock and water of the subjects.
He was made a member of RSA in 1918 and became a Royal Academician in 1920. In 1924 he was knighted and made King’s Painter in Scotland in 1933. Exhibited in RA, RSA, GI, and others.
