TOM CLOUGH (1867-1943) Biography

Born in July 1867 and educated in Bolton. It is said that he spent his fist sixpence on paints but was initially trained as a printer.He took up painting full time in 1899 and exhibited at all the leading galleries including 14 at the RA. Like many of his contemporaries form the industrial North West he found inspiration in the rural lanscape and ports of North wales. He also painted in Cornwall and Northern France.Bolton Art Gallery has an excellent collection of his work together with letters and articles relating to his life and work. He died in 1943.
